I went to a Chinese kindergarten called Siang Lin Kindergarten. I was so excited to Google the school.
I find it still looks exactly the same on Google Maps!
It’s my first school, and I remember every detail.
Even though the streets are much bigger now.
You might be wondering why a Malay girl went to a Chinese kindergarten.
Well, my grandmother’s first husband was Chinese. I remember her teaching me Chinese words when I was little.
I’m pretty sure it wasn’t Mandarin, but another Chinese dialect.
I also remember my teacher at the time asking if I would be going to the Chinese primary school next door.
She even had me sit with the other Chinese girls so I could practice speaking.
Sadly, my father didn’t send me to that school after getting advice from his brother. Or I would have mastered another language.
What’s a cool fact about you that you’ve discovered from your own family history?
Stay kreatif,
Siti
