You’re Jewish! Are you going to k**l me?
That was my reply to David’s message when he told me he was Jewish.
I recalled my dad saying, “You can marry anyone as long as he’s not Jewish.”
I said, ‘Dad, what if he becomes Muslim?’
‘You’re right,” he replied.
My dad was open-minded when I told him that I wanted to marry a foreigner.

David and I got to know each other through an online pen pal service.
He was in Los Angeles and I was in Shah Alam.
We became fast friends.
David didn’t answer me after my reply and shortly after he signed off.
I was feeling guilty; I just hurt the kindest soul that I had met.
I couldn’t sleep that night thinking that I wronged him.
I made a promise to myself to apologize to him.
I was ready to move on if he didn’t accept my apology and didn’t like me anymore.
The next day, I waited for him to be on-line and I quickly messaged him and said sorry.
He was cool about it and said it was fine.
What a relief!
People thought I was crazy for having a long distance pen pal relationship.
They thought it was a scam.
However, two years later, this pen pal relationship led to marriage.
Have you ever had to swallow your pride and apologize, and it led to something amazing?
