I once told my dad that I would never wear a headscarf. I never imagined that one day I would wear it. I used to feel shy and ugly whenever I put one on.
After moving to the U.S., my husband wanted me to wear a hijab. On his birthday, he told me, “I want you to put on a hijab; it’s about time.” I didn’t question him and just put it on.
But I was a little concerned about what his parents would think. I did it anyway.
Before that, I had started putting on a hijab in the bathroom when no one was around. I was so inspired by a Californian Muslim convert who talked about how much she loved wearing one.
I said to myself, “If this white girl loves wearing a hijab, and I’m a born Muslim, why don’t I?”
When God guides you, no one can stop you. Today, I’m very comfortable wearing a hijab in public. In fact, I feel like I’m a little ambassador for Islam whenever I go out because I am a visible Muslim.
If my parents were still alive, I’m pretty sure they would be very happy with me. If a stubborn girl like me can change, anyone can.
So, if you’re a Muslim woman who loves Islam, you should love the hijab, too. Girl, you look beautiful with a hijab on!
Stay kreatif,
Siti
