Ramadan is coming and I wanted to welcome this blessed month with a different approach. The majority of us clean the house for Eid. but this year I wanted to clean and prepare our house to welcome Ramadan. It’s a blessed holy month and I wanted to focus on worship in a clean, beautiful home. So here’s what we did this past week.
Refreshing the Home
My children did a bedroom makeover. They bought a new bed, touched up the walls with fresh paint and also brought in new writing tables. I wanted to reward their effort for having the initiative to makeover their bedroom. I thought that a new rug would be a perfect addition.
While looking for a suitable rug online, I thought maybe I should also get one for our home office.
Office Makeover
I was so excited to receive the rugs and couldn’t wait to use them; one in my children’s room and the other one in the office. I chose an abstract design (white, black, and yellow) for the rug for my children’s room and helped to brighten up their room.
My husband and my youngest son helped to put the other rug in the office. I was overjoyed to see the new rug on our office floor. The floral design really brightened up our office.
My husband and I sat on the floor, admiring the rug. I said, “I love your L shaped table”. He said “Do you want to switch tables?”And I said, “Are you sure?” I used to have an L-shaped table back in Malaysia. I was so excited and agreed to the switch.
We started to reorganize the office immediately. We switched the tables, got rid of a lot of stuff, and organized our new space. It was sort of like an early spring cleaning. Now I have a new space that I love and God willing, it will make me more productive.
Initially I wanted to just add the rug and never thought we’d do a whole makeover for our office. The unplanned activity for our office is truly God’s plan and His plan is the best!
Arabic Metal Islamic Wall Art
Also for this Ramadan I ordered this Arabic metal Islamic wall art that I’d been eyeing to buy for a number of years. When I saw that they had a Ramadan discount I couldn’t resist getting one. But I was also worried about where I should put this wall art since both my living and dining room walls are filled with my own art.
I decided to choose this beautiful First Kalima (Tawheed Tayyaba), Metal Islamic Wall Art in Arabic with the verse “La ilaha illa Allah” (there is no God but Allah).
I was deciding whether to get the matte gold or shiny gold. But I went along with the shiny gold because it matched with my gold framed original art. It’s pricier than the matte gold. However it’s worth it, as it’s going to be a daily reminder of the Declaration of Faith for my family.
20th Year Anniversary
The thing that excites me the most is that this Ramadan will be my 20th year living in the United States. I don’t know what I will be doing to celebrate my 20th anniversary. I leave it to God on that day. But no matter what, I am so grateful to Allah that I will be reaching this 20 year mark.
I’m looking forward to welcoming Ramadan this year. I can say that I’m fully prepared this time round; for instance, prepping the clothing to go to the masjid every night, listing my ibadah (worship) activities, and aiming to complete a Quran recitation, cover to cover.
I pray that this Ramadan will be a successful one for me and my family and I pray the same for all Muslims all over the world. Ameen.
Stay kreatif,
Siti
